FAQ: WHY DOESN'T MY MODEM SYNC AT HIGHER SPEEDS?

The final sync speed of your modem is dependent on several things, these may include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Line quality/gauge
  • Physical distance from the exchange
  • Internal equipment such as your modem or filters
  • There are several steps you can take to guarantee you have the optimal sync speed for your connection.

Always ensure that you are using the shortest cabling possible. Do your best to have your modem as close to a phone socket as possible as phone cabling is quite susceptible to noise and degradation; much less so than the cabling attaching your modem to your computer.

It is also possible to purchase higher quality filters, these can generally be obtained online of at a local computer hardware store. Filtering your line correctly is essential in a stable and suitable ADSL connection. Always ensure that internal devices other than your modem are properly filtered as an incorrectly filtered device will usually cause a very unstable connection.

Last but not least, higher quality hardware will usually be composed oh higher quality parts. It is common for more expensive hardware to synchronize at a higher speed than one compromised of lesser parts, although this difference may be minimal this may make all the difference.
